Residual Current Devices: Choosing Sensitivity for Wet Areas

30 mA personal protection versus 100–300 mA fire protection—and when Type A or Type B RCDs are required.

Residual Current Devices: Choosing Sensitivity for Wet Areas

RCDs save lives by detecting earth leakage. Bathrooms, outdoor circuits, and temporary supplies typically need 30 mA instantaneous devices.

EV chargers, VFDs, and UPS systems may produce DC residual currents that Type AC RCDs cannot detect—specify Type A or Type B accordingly.

Test monthly with the built-in button and schedule periodic ramp testing for critical circuits.
